Why Use a Serum for Oily Skin?

Using a serum designed for oily skin can significantly enhance your skincare routine. If you have oily skin, you might be hesitant to add another product, but a serum can actually help balance oil production and improve skin health.

Serums are lightweight and fast-absorbing. Unlike heavy creams, they are usually water-based with a lighter consistency, making them ideal for oily skin. They deliver a high concentration of active ingredients without leaving a greasy residue.

Serums are designed with targeted ingredients and results, which when applied consistently have brilliant results for the skin over time. These ingredients work their way to the lower levels of the skin to encourage new, healthy skin cells to the surface.

Common misconceptions include the belief that serums make skin oilier. In reality, serums balance oil production without exacerbating it. Another myth is that oily skin doesn't need hydration. Oily skin still requires hydration to maintain a healthy moisture balance, and serums provide lightweight hydration without adding excess oil.

How to Choose the Right Serum for Oily Skin

Finding the right serum is crucial for maintaining a balanced complexion. With so many options available, luckily we have the perfect serum at TEMPLESPA!

CLEAR TO ME Skin Clarifying Serum clears and refines the skin with brilliant ingredients like salicylic acid, niacinamide and retinal. Its fusion of ingredients prevent breakouts and rapidly targets blemishes and redness, it balances excess oil to reduce shine and helps unclog blocked pores and reduce the appearance of oversized pores.

We’ll let these statements speak for themselves… Clinically proven to:*

  • Significantly reduce blemishes after 28 days
  • Significantly reduce sebum level after just one use and 7 times more effective after 28 days
  • Significantly minimise visible pores after 28 days
  • Significantly reduce skin redness after 28 days
  • Significantly smooth unwanted skin texture after 28 days

*Independent clinical trial based on a panel size of 20, aged between 18-50 who suffer with blemishes, enlarged pores, oiliness, redness and unwanted surface texture.

Let’s talk ingredients, because CLEAR TO ME has a brilliant array of ingredients and benefits which work in harmony together:

  • Willowherb Flower Extract. A soothing prebiotic rich in polyphenols to help reduce sebum production, leaving the skin less oily and shiny.
  • Salicylic Acid. A known ingredient for those prone to excess oil, it’s a BHA that exfoliates and resurfaces the skin without causing irritation to the skin – the complete opposite in fact!
  • Niacinamide. Another spoken about ingredient in the skincare world, and go read our full blog post (link: https://www.templespa.com/blog/what-are-the-benefits-of-niacinamide-for-the-skin) dedicated to it. What this hyperactive ingredient does is improve the appearance of enlarged pores and skin texture, for softer, smoother and even skin tone.
  • Adenosilane. This innovative ingredient balances excess oil and visibly improves skin elasticity to help minimise the appearance of oversized pores – a huge feat in a serum for oily skin.
  • Encapsulated retinal (vitamin A). A favourite for improving the condition of uneven skin texture and blemishes, leaving your skin looking healthier and firmer overall.
  • Vitamin C. This final spotlight ingredient pulls everything together! Taken from Kakadu Plum, this source of vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that actively delivers brighter, healthier and clearer-looking skin.

Where does a serum fit in my skincare routine?

A serum will slot in after your cleanser and toner, and optional mask, but before your moisturiser. This ensures it’s applied to clean skin and can deliver the best ingredients to the lower levels of the skin and do its best work there!

How do I apply a serum?

We recommend 1-2 drops into your palm, then massaging into your face using circular, upward motions. You’d leave this for a few moments before following with your serum, this allows your serum to fully absorb into your skin!

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I use a serum for oily skin?

For optimal results, use our serum twice a day—morning and evening. This helps balance oil production and control shine. If you have sensitive skin, start with once a day and gradually increase. CLEAR TO ME has been clinically proven for sensitive skin too, we would always recommend to patch test yourself first if you have sensitive skin, and discontinue if you have any type of reaction.

Can I use a serum with other skincare products?

Yes! Our serum is designed to complement your existing routine. After cleansing and toning, apply a small amount of serum, then follow with moisturiser and sun protection. This ensures the serum's active ingredients work effectively.

There are quite a few actives in CLEAR TO ME, can you tell me more about them please?

It's unusual to see this combination of active ingredients in the same product, especially one that is still suitable for sensitive skin! But CLEAR TO ME gently balances them and harnesses their unique properties, doing the job of multiple products in one. Think of it as combining what you could be using as multiple single-ingredient-led products to target with just one product.
