Let’s start with the basic skincare routine, and later on we’ll share by skin type and benefit where you can tailor your skincare routine to you.
What do I need in a skincare routine for men?
Step 1: Cleanser
In the mornings, your cleanser will be all about refreshing and balancing your skin, and something quick and easy to help you start your day. You’ll want a gentle cleanser that refreshes the skin, brightens dullness and doesn’t leave the skin feeling tight and uncomfortable.
We’d always recommend a double cleanse in the evening, especially if you’ve been travelling in a city, commuting and going about your day-to-day. Throughout the day your skin will pick up on pollution, dirt and grime embedded in your skin, and you’ll need a thorough second cleanse to ensure these are all removed along with your skincare you applied earlier on in the day.
Step 2: Tone
You may not be familiar with a toner, it’s designed to help rebalance and purify the skin before the next step in your routine. There are many which have additional benefits such as exfoliation and hydration, so make sure you’re picking the right toner benefit for your skin. Often, you’ll apply with a cotton pad, then sweep this across the skin to ensure maximum benefits and coverage.
Step 3: Treat
This is where you look to target specific skin concerns, maybe that’s dull and lacklustre skin, or oversized pores and oiliness or something to help restore your skin balance and hydration. We use a serum with highly targeted and concentrated ingredients and apply across our face; a few pumps and a gentle massage in before leaving for a few moments to absorb.
The skin around our eye area is 10x thinner than the rest of our face, so it needs a delicate touch and soothing ingredients. A focused eye cream will help add hydration, brightness and help target any fine lines and wrinkles. When applying you’ll use your ring finger only, as this has the lightest touch, and gently pat in the eye cream until fully absorbed.
Step 4: Moisturise
Now a step that we recognise and perhaps do as part of our routine anyway. A moisturiser will help add hydration and keep skin soft and smooth. Again, these come in a variety of textures and benefits depending on what you’re after. You’ll apply a generous amount all across your face and bring it down to your neck too.
Step 5: Protect
You might think that after a moisturiser, what’s left in a skincare routine for men? But it’s SPF, or sun protection factor, and it’s not just something you apply on holiday. All year round our skin is exposed to UVA and UVB rays, which each play a role in skin ageing, as well as blue light from digital devices and general day-to-day pollution. A broad-spectrum SPF will provide your skin with suitable cover to ensure your skin isn’t ageing prematurely.

Toner
