In a world where new products are being created every day, our skin care routine is looking more like 10-15 steps nowadays rather than a simple skin care routine that we’d like to aim for. In this guide we’ll share the order of skin care products, which facial skin care can be a daily essential or an occasional treat and what a good skin care routine looks like.
The basic skin care routine
Cleanse
Morning and evening you’ll have a cleanser in your routine, designed to lift away makeup, oils and impurities collected throughout the day and night. For your morning skin care routine a light cleanser like GOOD TO GO Creamy Foaming Cleanser revives and refreshes without stripping the skin. We’d always recommend a double cleanse in the evening, especially if you’ve been wearing makeup and SPF during the day as this can block pores and become trapped in the skin. A great first cleanse is IN THE BEGINNING Deep Cleansing Melt which is a balm with exfoliating pieces that melt into the skin to create an oil-like cleanser, skin is dewy and cleansed!
A great accessory for cleansing is a muslin cloth, aiding your cleanser and ensuring makeup, oils, impurities and the cleanser itself are completely removed from the skin. Add our TAKE IT OFF Muslin Cleansing Cloths to your order!
Tone
Sometimes an area which is skipped over, but having a toner in your order of skin care products can greatly help improve the next step and performance of your products overall! Toners are designed to rebalance and refine the skin, with additional benefits of hydration and exfoliation depending on their ingredient blend. We’d recommend applying your toner to a cotton pad then sweeping across the skin.
For dull skin, our GLOWCOLIC Resurfacing Toner helps to gently exfoliate away dead skin cells and create an even skin texture, then for hydration you won’t go far wrong with TONING ESSENCE Essential Mist Tonic. A gorgeously light nourishing toner than can be used as a facial mist too!
Treat
In the recent decade serums have moved from an addition to a necessity in a good skin care routine, simply because they do the long-term work and have the results that we love to see! Serums are thinner in texture and have smaller molecules to reach the lower levels of the skin to nourish new skin cells with all the ingredient benefits you need.
A great daily serum is our LET’S CONCENTRATE Skin Glowing Serum, also known as your vitamin c booster and the best serum for glowing skin! This is great for dull skin as the synergy of vitamin c, alpha arbutin and mineral complex work to increase skin cell viability and energy, say hello to a fresh new glow. The added sodium hyaluronate helps to increase skin hydration levels and generally promotes more youthful and radiant skin in one.
Moisturiser
Completing your simple skin care routine is a moisturiser, and choosing yours depends on your skin type and needs. For example, you have dry and dehydrated skin, a super nourishing DOUBLE CREAM Hydrating Moisturiser will help restore parched skin and even skin texture. On the other side of the spectrum, congested and oily skin will love MOISTURE MATTE Mattifying Moisturiser to balance oiliness and control it throughout the day.
Our one essential moisturiser for a good skin care routine is an SPF. Our LIFE DEFENCE can be found in SPF30 or SPF50 and you can apply solo as it is, or on top of your favourite moisturiser. This is the best step you can do for your skin ageing and vitality!
Extras
You may be thinking where does a face mask fit into my basic skin care routine? These can be a weekly treat and like our moisturisers, and would be chosen by your skin type or needs. For the winter months a deeply hydrating mask like QUENCH Rejuvenating Mask will do your skin all the good, or for targeting uneven skin texture THE POWER BREAKFAST Nutritious Scrub & Mask is a hero.
An eye cream can also be an addition to a basic skin care routine as generally the eye area is thinner and needs extra TLC. A great everyday eye cream like WINDOWS OF THE SOUL Hydrating Eye Treatment Gel-Cream will help reverse tiredness and puffiness, while flooding the eye area with gentle moisturising ingredients.
