Glossary
PP, PETG, HDPE… we know, there’s a lot of jargon and acronyms when it comes to recycling and sustainability. Here’s our rundown of what’s what, if and where each type can be recycled.
ABS - Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene - a type of plastic. Not currently recyclable.
FSC - Forestry Stewardship Council. An international non-profit organisation that promotes responsible management of the world’s forests via timber certification.
HDPE - High Density Polyethylene - a type of plastic. HDPE is another material which is widely recycled through standard UK household recycling streams.
LDPE - Low Density Polyethylene - a type of plastic. LDPE can be recycled, but we would advise to check with your local recycling facilities.
PCR - Post-consumer Recycled. This will mean the materials will be made from already recycled materials.
PET - Polyethylene Terephthalate - a type of plastic. PET is widely recycled in the UK through household recycling streams.
PETG - Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol - a type of plastic. Not as widely recyclable, please check with your local recycling facility.
PP - Polypropylene - a type of plastic. Polypropylene (PP) can be easily recycled, and is widely taken in household recycling, across the UK.
PVC - Polyvinyl Chloride - a type of plastic. Recycling PVC is a complex chemical process, and it is not currently recycled by UK household recycling schemes.
RSPO - Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil - The RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) is a non-profit organisation which was established by stakeholders from the palm oil industry to minimise the negative impact of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities in palm oil-producing regions.
